1. Central Excise: In 1988 we pleaded with the Government by memorandums and through delegates that the stainless steel Utinsels, Cutlery,Kitchenware, and other household Articles are Items of mass consumptions and largely manufactured by small scale and Tiny units therefore should be exempted the plea was accepted. In the budget of 1997-98, this exemption has been converted into nil duty in the Tariff itself.
2. Sales Tax: We similarly pleaded with our memorandum to the state Government to reduce the Sales Tax on Utinsels & cutlery which was highest at 12% at one time. This was reduced step by step to 10% in 1981, 8% in 1989, 4% in 1991 and now in 1997 it is 2% on raw material & utensils & 4% on cutlery.
3. Wastage Norms for Goods Exported: Initally the wastage norms fixed were very low and were affecting our exports. On our repeated representation, the Government has revised the norms to resonable levels in the year 1994, which are helping our exports.
4. Publication: The Association publishes a fortnightly Bulliten since 1987, which attained the status of a newspaper in the year 1991 and is registered with the Registrar of newspapers, New Delhi under Registration No. RN 54704/91. The bulliten circulated to all members, other associate bodies, Government Departments, EEPC, etc., gives experts from various news papers, publication on matters of intrest to the members. It also publishes notifications relevants to the industry in respect of import export Central Excise, Customs, Finance, Sales Tax etc. It is good medium for advertisements of your goods as it reaches all segments of the industry and trade.
5. Seminars: At the annual General Meeting since 1995 we have commenced holdiong seminars on the subjects of common intrest to members like management, Internet etc.
6. General: The Association has also developed a very good rapport with the media so that our achivements as well as grievances are highlighted so that they can reach the proper authorities as well as enlighten the trade and industry.
