Messenger

Most would think Messenger and Emails to be same but they have   some difference. However both are used for sending messages to   people but the differences are: (The differences are only for   SMEnetwork and may not apply to other sites)

  1. Emails and Messenger can best be compared to normal letter       and Telegram. Where as an email is for longer messages like a       letter Messenger is like Telegram which is for shorter messages       and for faster delivery.
  2. For Emails a person has to sign in separately whereas for       Messenger one can access the service from anywhere once he       signs in to Member Area i.e. one can use Messenger from His       Trade Leads, Forums anywhere.
  3. Emails can be sent to (or received from) anyone who is not even a       member of SMEnetwork but messages on Messenger are only for       members.
  4. In Emails one would have an account like xyz@smenetwork.net       but In messenger anyone can send messages to xyz by his       username as registered on SMEnetwork.

  How to Use Messenger?
  1. Again a person has to sign in to his Member's area. If he is       already signed in then he can go directly by clicking on       Messenger.
  2. A page will open which will take him to Inbox where all the      messages from different members are shown. A person would      notice that it is identical to his Email Inbox but the differences      remain as stated above. It shows like this:

Forums Inbox

Hello!! Xyz 10/20/02 6:30
Check All Clear All Delete
Move Checked Notes to Check Folder from List Go

Explanation:

  1. Inbox- This would take the member to the page as shown above. Here he will get an account of all the      messages received new as well as old in. If there are new messages their number would come before the New      Message as shown above. Its components can be further explained as:
Subject: It shows the subject of the message and if clicked would take us to the Message details.
From: It means the sender of the message and if this is also clicked would take us to the same message as in      the case of Subject.
Select all: This would select all the Messages and then one can delete them together or move them to a folder.
Clear All: This is opposite of Select All and if all messages are selected would unselect them.
Delete: One can delete all the messages by Select All and then delete them or select the one to be deleted by      going to the small box to the left of the subject of the Message and Press the box with the mouse. A tick mark      will appear and then press delete and the message will be deleted.
Move Checked Notes to: Here one can move the selected Messages to a Folder. As explained above in the      case of Emails a Businessman interacts with many types of people at time and needs to create Files and      Folders for each type for easy communication. By selecting the above Messages one can move them to various      folders one creates or provided by the system. Other folders are explained above but there is a facility by which      a person can send the messages to his email in case the message is important by selecting Email Id of the      member and press move. The Email Id is automatically taken and is same as a person submits for his      registration (For more Details of all the folders Please See Below)

  2. Address: This is like the address book in the email system. But one has to simply enter the usernames of      members of SMEnetwork, not full accounts as in address book. For e.g. in case of say Mr. X is a member of      SMEnetwork and you want to add him to the address book in Emails as well as Messenger. Then in Email      system you will have to add the full account- x@smenetwork.net and in case of Messenger just x. But again      remember that Messenger is only for registered users. Here one can add as well as Delete the names.

  3. Compose: Here a member can compose his messages and send them to members. One can even Insert the       Addresses from the book where he has created them by clicking on Insert Address on the right of the Compose       Form and then click on the names he wants to send the message to. He can even send a CC/ BCC to the       persons. The concept of CC and Bcc is the same as explained in Email Section.
  4. Folders: This would take us to Folders section where one can create new folders or see the status of the       existing folders provided by the System. It already has 5 folders :-

Inbox: Explained above
Drafts: A general folder
Sent Messages: Here one can save all the Messages he has to respond to.
Trash: This is like a dustbin in which you can send useless messages and empty it later.

For creation of new folders a member has to fill the name of the folder and press Add. It would be created automatically.

5. Preferences: This section is for selecting the Color scheme, Font Type, Font Size and also the number of messages a person wants in his Inbox at a time. It is self-explanatory and a member can simply see the effects by selecting a few options on own.
6. Options: These are more advanced features where one can add to his message like his signature and so on. The concept of Signature is the same as explained in Email.

Why is Messenger Important?
As the features are similar to email a general Question to be asked is what is the necessity of Messenger. Messenger is entirely for members and as our members form a trusted community by its very nature Messenger is for internal communication. It is like an organization, which has an intercom to interact and send/receive messages.

Moreover Messenger is interconnected with Trade Leads and Forums. It can better be explained with an example. Suppose Mr. X has Posted an offer to Sell (for details see Trade Leads Section) and Mr. Y is interested in Buying then there are two options:
1) Either Mr. Y can contact Mr. X via Email or Phone by taking the details from Mr. X's Home Page
2) The Second option is reply directly by Clicking on Reply and sending the message. Now as Mr. X opens his Messenger Inbox he would see the reply from Mr. Y and proceed on his end.
