SECRETARY REPORT

The major activities of the association during the year 2003-04

1. In the first executive meeting we decided upon some of the objective we would like to achieve during the year, which were

a) To act on behalf of members in effecting the policy decisions of the government

b) Imparting information about the government policies, changes in tariff structure, rate of taxation etc. through seminars and workshops.

c) Provide a platform to its member for solving their problems with relevant authorities

d) To instill a sense of satisfaction among the members, with the working of the association and instigate confidence that much more can be achieved, if we work together for the same goal

Efforts were made to fulfill above objectives and the association moved in a systematic manner to doing so.

2. In the first quarter of the session, formation of Roorkee Survey and Drawing Instrument Cluster had been kept high on the association agenda, as it was felt that the scheme may be very usefull for the local industry. The discussion related to the same were held in various CEC meetings and at various other platforms. The proceedings of such meetings have been circulated among the members from time to time. Best efforts have been made to make the members understand the scheme and make the scheme more in lines with the requirement of the industry. In this process a major meeting organized by STEP, IIT Roorkee on 10.12.2003 which was well attended by the association members and many points on the scheme were clarified there. All possible assistance was given to Mr. Ajit Pandey, consultant appointed by the Uttaranchal Government.

3. During the year, discussions were held in executive meetings on various points in general interest of our members. Rising cost of raw material particularly, Steel, Aluminum, Brass & Plastics and reservation in private sector are some such issues. The decision of association implying the need for making the single rate of import duty at 5-8% for all items and the ill effect of the proposed reservation in private sector were communicated to the government with the help of our associate associations like FISME and CII.

4. This year the dissipation of relevant information to the members from time to time had been high on our agenda. Starting distribution of New Letter containing all relevant information about taxation, tariffs and various other government schemes, distribution of relevant circulars regarding, registration of generators, ESI, Service Tax, Cluster Scheme etc. had been a effort in this direction only. Printing and distribution of new roaster containing updated information about the members was also a part of this effort.

5. Four interactive programs had been conducted during the year.

i) The 2 days workshop on “Development of Managerial Skill of Technical Personnel”, by Dr. S. Rangnekar at Center of Continuing Education in IIT Roorkee on 27th & 28th Dec., 2003

ii) A one day workshop on “Impact of WTO on SSI units”, in association with WASME was conducted at Hotel Divine, Roorkee, this meeting was preceded by an Interactive session with SIDGUL chairman, Mr. Parag Gupta

iii) A interactive session with DM, Haridwar in Udyog Miter Meeting organized in association with DIC, Roorkee on 24th Sept., 2004

iv) And finally a seminar session with Director General, ESI, New Delhi organized on 1st Oct., 2004 in Industrial Estate, Roorkee.

All the programs were well attended by the members and many problems of the industry were discussed in these sessions

6. The follow up action with the government officials had been done effectively during the year. Sanctioning of funds and calling of tenders for Industrial Estate road, the work which had been pending for the last many years, had been a major achievement of this effort.

7. Efforts had been made to publicize the association and its members name at various platforms. Launching of its website in the month of November, 2003 itself and sending members list to various Industrial associations in Tamil Naidu and Gujrat for publication in their directories are some of such efforts.

I hope we were able to satisfy our members with our functioning during the year and promise to make even better efforts in the next session

Assuring you of best efforts of our team

Yours sincerely
Ravi Prakash
